A Worker Death from Falling in a Sports Stadium

posted on 20 November 2011

The safety and security at a work place is highly important especially when you are working in a hazardous environment. From PPE workwear to safety drills, safety is always the first priority. I work as a construction worker for a private company, my work requires me to climb to high altitudes and there is always a risk of falling, and if you are not experienced at the work place the risk is even higher. A year ago I was working at a construction site, where my company was hired by the government to build a sport stadium. Our company didn’t provide us with the necessary precautions such as safety ropes and vests to prevent us from falling when you are climbing on the steep roof covering of the stadium. When I complained they’ve told me that if I want I can quit the job, I needed the money so I took the risk. A month later a new worker arrived at the job, not long after, he faltered on the equipment and fell from the top of the stadium and died on the place. An investigation was made and the company was at the center of the attention on the media. Now they are facing charges for endangering the life of the workers.

There's Such Bad Insulation In My House

posted on 4 November 2011

I have a house on three floors in Croatia. One thing I would change is the insulation of exterior walls. Since the house is old building insulation is quite bad and a lot of money is spent on space heating. Lining the walls with insulating material is quite expensive, and for our house it would cost up to 10000€. Thermal insulation not only reduces the cost of heating, but it reduces the costs of space cooling in summer.Although the high cost of adaptation it is a real money saver. My neighbor has invested in upgrading the insulation and is now paying six times less heating costs than me. He also is a master DIY guru with his various tools - he even has stihl saws - I may solicit his help when I'm doing my own house makeover! Another thing that I would change are the windows. I have old wooden windows that require lots of maintenance. Changing the window frames in PVC frames seems like a good investment, becouse they last longer and require less maintenance. Also it is possible to fill the space between the window panes with special gases that provide better thermal insulation. Energy saving and efficiency is very important to me.

A Washer and Dryer Is on My Replacement Radar

posted on 12 October 2011

The next time there’s a tax rebate holiday in my state for energy-efficient appliances, I’m going to hustle down to Best Buy or Home Depot and get a new washer and dryer for my laundry room. The washer and dryer that I’ve been using are more than 20 years old, and even though they’re washing and spinning as required, there are days when I’m not sure my clothes will survive either of the cycles. Although spending money on new appliances is not really in my budget (I barely have budget for the velcro tape I need for my new curtains), I know that one day both of these units are going unexpectedly die, and then I’ll be forced to buy something in a hurry. So replacement units are on my radar. If I do the research and find good deals now, I’ll be able to replace the washer and dryer on my terms. Of course, this will mean a few modifications to my laundry room, since I’m looking at buying a front-loading washer, but it’s been a long time since I did any remodeling and this is one that is geared toward function, rather than fashion. That is, unless I decide to buy the brand that comes in a deep red color. That would make a fashion statement, don’t you think?

Foods That Contains Silicone Dioxide

posted on 3 October 2011

Silicone is an important element for proper development of our body especially the bones. This element is not usually present in its original free form but in compound such as silicone dioxide, chemically represented as SiO2, is also known as silica. This mineral plays major roles on development of not only the bones but also other tissues such as marinating healthy skin, nails, and hair. This is why this mineral should be an indispensable part of our daily food. Scientists recommend silica for proper development of the bone because it help the bone developed proper strength and density. There are several types of foods that contain silica. Mostly, this mineral is found in higher concentration in foods that are derived from plants. The foods derived from animal sources shows little concentrations of silicone dioxide. In particular, it is found in higher concentration in cereals and grains. These are the special kinds of foods that you should include in your daily diet if you want to boost your daily intake of this indispensible mineral. Including cereals and grains in your daily diets greatly ensure you have appropriate intake of silicone dioxide mineral. However besides the cereals and grains, there are other foods that also contains significant amount silicone dioxide. Let’s see them. Fruits have been proved to contain enough amount of silicone dioxide. This mineral naturally occurs in fruits such as oranges, apples, plum, cherries, grapes, raisins etc. besides fruits, vegetables also contains significant amount of this mineral. You can enhance your daily intake of silicone dioxide by consuming vegetables such as cucumber, celery, and raw cabbage. Lastly, nuts and whole grains are also important sources of silicone dioxide.

Big Messes:the Renter's Leavings

posted on 18 July 2011

As I entered the home our renter's had recently vacated I was astounded by what I saw. Liquor bottles covering most of the floors, bedding in almost every room, discarded clothing and general trash everywhere. Beyond the clutter I found wholes punched in walls, notes written on the walls, toilets obviously uncleaned for their entire 6 month stay, it was awful. I knew that it would take more work than I could accomplish alone. I'd done work for an oil tank removal company in the past, and this is up there with one of the toughest jobs I'd ever done. I called in others from our rental company and started with 5 able bodies working to clean and restore the home. With all working from sunrise to sunset we were able to remove all of the trash (filling an entire large dumpster) patch the holes in the walls, clean and sanitize and make the home livable again. I am quite glad we were able to clean the entire mess in one day and return the next to repaint and repair the few remaining issues.
