An exchange student from Japan arrived at our class yesterday. She was introduced by our homeroom teacher Ms. Collins and she spoke in a slightly slow manner with a slight accent. Her name was Shiori Yanagami and she will be spending the rest of her high school years with us. Maria who has been a huge fan of anything and everything Japanese was the very first student to befriend her. Maria speaks a little Japanese and Shiori&rsquos face lit up when Maria addressed her in Japanese. The two became fast friends and Maria became Shiori&rsquos English language tutor and in return Shiori helped Maria improve her Japanese. Since Shiori is an exchange student of different nationality she has to go to the immigration every 2 months or so. Shiori once asked Maria to accompany her to the immigration office to process what she calls &ldquopassport additional visa pages&rdquo. This happened during Shiori&rsquos third year of stay in the country. By that time her English has been close to flawless with very minimal accent and Maria&rsquos Japanese has improved tremendously.
